Build the Future
In 2018 GitHub celebrated it’s 10 year anniversary as a company. The first half of the year was dedicated to the accomplishments of the coding community. It was meant to thank all of those who collaborated to bring the company into it’s second decade of existence.
The second half the year was meant to spark excitement about the future possibilities and the developer community who would make them a reality, which is was the mission of this video.
the Gist
Our story is centered around an ambitious young woman named Cleo. As a child she saw her brother struggle with a physical disability but had an idea to help. But any adventure will inevitably lead to obstacles along the way. It wasn’t until she tapped into the vast open source community that she could see her dream realized. Standing on the shoulders of others before her, and collaborating in real time, she pushed her design further than she thought possible. Sharing the knowledge in an open way not only gives others the ability to help her, but vice versa. The possibilities are limitless.
Millions of futures are being built on GitHub every day. Through the power of open thinking, an open internet, and open source, now is a moment of unrivaled potential. Gone are the days of waiting for someone else to find the way. Anyone with an idea and a passion to ignite change are actively building tomorrow.
our role
The GitHub animation team, which included João Ribeiro, Cameron Foxly, Haley Carroll and myself, were tasked with writing, storyboarding, and supporting the video team with special effects. We illustrated storyboards and animatics that showed camera angles, movements and main acting beats. This was passed off to the video team, directed by Jeremy Brady, for production. Some of my specific responsibilities:
Animation Team Lead
Writing
Storyboards
Animatics
The Results
The video was well received. It was initially released at GitHub Universe and then online. It has gained hundreds of thousands of views, as well as the following awards.
